LTCOP Seeking Part-time Nurse Investigator/Advocate

The New Jersey Office of the State Long Term Care Ombudsman is seeking a Part-time Nurse Investigator/Advocate  to advocate on behalf of vulnerable seniors living in licensed long-term care settings in central Jersey. The geographic area includes Mercer County and Ocean, Monmouth and Burlington counties to the south with Hunterdon, Middlesex, Somerset and Union to the north. The Office of the Ombudsman for the Institutionalized Elderly is currently seeking to fill a part-time Nurse Investigator/Advocate  position. This is an hourly position. The successful candidate will work a maximum of 944 hours a year.


Responsibilities

Investigates allegations of abuse, neglect or exploitation of individuals over the age of 60 living in long-term care communities. Conducts on-site visits to assess a resident’s personal, social, medical and other needs and recommends appropriate action. Notes conditions observed during investigations of long-term care facilities regarding personal property, finance, life and safety hazards, residents’ rights, medical treatment and potential physical, sexual or emotional abuse and prepares reports and correspondence related to same. Advocates for the rights of residents of long-term care communities and refers identified problems to the appropriate regulatory or law enforcement authorities.

Education and Experience

The successful candidate must have graduated from an accredited college or university  and must have six years nursing experience in a long-term care setting. Appointees are required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey.
